Poetry assignment

Pg. 749 If you Love for the Sake of Beauty
by Friedrich Ruckert

I really like this poem because it speaks volumes in so many ways.  I so strongly love for the sake of love not Beauty.  Beauty is just an added bonus to me.  You know the saying "beauty is only skin deep?"  I thought this poem was special enough to share because sometimes we lose sight on the basics of love.  You can find yourself in a world of trouble trying to love based on beauty.

  1. This poem is so true! Today we tend to want to look for the material things a person has or their appearance. We never take the time to look inside the person and get to know them for who they are. We just assume that they look good and who doesn't want eye candy on their arm:)

  2. Beauty really is only skin deep. I have been around a lot of people that I thought was beautiful or handsome when I first met them but later on wondered what ever made me think they were that way.

I feel that I have a lot of beauty on the inside. I have always been plain Jane and never stood out in a crowd. I am not ugly I have just been considered the girl next door hundreds of times. I have always had the girl friends that stood out and all the guys would stop to stare at what they were flaunting.
Before I was married guys would hang around my girlfriends and me. Sometime I was not the first pick for guys but after they were around me long enough I was always able to win them over and they would start liking me instead.
Not trying to brag at all. It’s just the people that have the immaculate beauty seem to not work as hard. They just think people should like them for their looks, and most people do. An ugly personality will make them less attractive after someone sees them longer than first glances!
Thank goodness for this or I never would have landed my wonderful husband! He liked all the girls around me and overlooked me. I weeded my way in a showed him what beauty I truly had and won him over.
