Poetry assignment

pg. 627  Here a Pretty Baby Lies
by  Robert Herrick

Here a pretty baby lies
Sung asleep with lullabies:
Pray be silent, and not stir
Th' easy earth that covers her.

I chose this poem because it deals with babies.  I love children.  Actually my job profession is centered around children.  This poem is special to me because "children" are special to me and I wanted to share it.  I think this poem is worthy of sharing because when you read it, it makes me think of babies or children sleeping and if you've ever had children, when they are sleepy you definitely want them to be at peace.  Babies are a special gift and you want the best for them even while sleeping.  You want to give them the security of knowing they are safe and all is well even during sleep.

  1. I think this poem is very sad and creepy. I can imagine an old black and white movie with people wearing black veils and a creepy funeral home. A small casket with black roses and everyone crying. It is depressing. I know it is a fact of life that children die but I don't like to think about it.

  2. This is a great short poem. It also relays how a mother loves her child, sings her pretty baby to sleep and wishing them well while they sleep.

  3. I'm right there with you ladies!!! I thought it was to be a sweet little lullaby to sing to your children and then BANG! Out of nowhere you find out the child had passed. So sad and made me want to hug my children and not let them go!
